The view from the bleachers.

Those of you that know me, understand my appreciation for the game of hockey.  I’m involved in many aspects of the game, but really enjoy this time of the year when I can just simply relax and watch the NHL playoffs.  The normal hockey stress is gone, the fish haven’t started to bite, and the game brings a quiet relaxation to my hockey world.  I finally get to be just part of the crowd.

It’s easy to be a part of the crowd.  Fair weather fans and Monday morning quarterbacks dominate this group of band wagon jumping herd followers.  Do what everybody else does and you don’t have to worry about discipline, determination, or desire; you simply show up, get in line, and follow.

At the Larson Family of Companies we’ve never liked the view as a follower.  We were the innovators that brought seamless siding and gutters to central Minnesota.  We saw the need for replacement windows, and started to install them before other contractors had even heard about them.  We continue to innovate today.  Our green building practices, and energy efficient products uphold our role as an industry leader.

When it comes to remodeling or new construction, don’t settle for another member of the crowd.  Look for innovation and company whose finished product will stand out from the crowd.  Look no further than the the proud members of the Larson Family of Companies.

You don’t always get a “do-over”

Is a project too much for you to handle?  Do you need the services of a professional?  The first thing a true “do it yourselfer” should admit is that the project will take 2 to 3 times the amount of time that you estimated, and additionally, it will cost double the money you had anticipated.  If you identify your limts with each of these items, the entire project will go much smoother.

Knowing the limit of your ability will also allow you to concentrate on finding the best contractor for your situation.  A professional builder or remodeler will take the time to listen to your concerns, create a workable plan for everyone, and follow through as promised.  Additionally, the professional will see that the entire project is a code-compliant adventure that will serve you for many years to come.

Do-overs are expensive, stressful, and potentially liable.  Take the time, know your limits, and select a licensed profesional that reduces the hangover of the do-over!

Experience really is important

It has been said that education is expensive.  (For those of you in the same age bracket as myself, I am not referring to the direct and indirect expen$e of the post “secondary learning experience.”)  A person either pays to be educated through schooling or seminars, or they learn the hard way…through trial and error.

We are fortunate to have some of the most experienced employees in central Minnesota.  That experience has been acquired through training, discipline, and unfortunately, through trial and error.  I am the first to admit that we are not perfect; we have made mistakes in the past 44 years of business in Hutchinson.  However, I can assure you that we have learned from those situations, and are better contractors and business people because of that.

The experience we have gained through the years is very obvious when it comes to water intrusion.  Having a vast amount of knowledge as a home builder, and through our relationship with ABC Seamless Siding/Gutters, we have a huge competitive advantage over our competition when it comes to addressing the issue of water intrusion.

Did you know that a 1-inch rainfall will deposit 1,250 gallons of water on a 2,000 square-foot roof?  And even more alarming is that during a wind-driven rain, a wall doesn’t know it is not a roof.  Therefore, it is imperative that your contractor fully understand things like kick out flashings, divertors, sill pans, and drip edge.  Without that knowlege, without experience, your contractor will be creating more issues for you in the long run.

Don’t end up like the picture above.  Water damage can cost thousands of dollars, mold contamination can have serious health side affects.  When making the decision on which contractor to use for your home improvement needs, understand there is more to the project than the lowest bid!

“Holy Baby Rabbits,” Batman, they are everywhere!

With many local projects being completed in Hutchinson right now, I thought I’d take a couple of minutes to introduce everyone to our two highest profile projects.

We are proud of the work being completed for Gary and Donna Reetz at 345 Hasson Street in Hutchinson, MN.  The Reetz’s were tired of the endless maintenance required with an out-dated asphalt roof, and decided to invest in a new stone-coated Gerard Roof System.  The Reetz’s selected the Granite Ridge panel in the charcoal color. Swing by Hasson Street and watch the progress, as we update this beautiful, classic Hutchinson home with a new roof system that features today’s state of the art techonology.

We are also excited to feature the siding update at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.  This renovation features our ABC Seamless Siding in a seamless vertical panel.  The Cedar color is one of our newer panel colors.  Make sure you notice the updates!

Everyone at the Larson Family of Companies is extremely proud of the work that we continue to do in our local community.  The confidence and trust that residents of Hutchinson have placed in us for the last 44 years is inspiring!

Larson announces North American Exclusive

According to Doug Kephart, President of Richard Larson Builders, Inc, they are extremely proud to have been selected as North America’s exclusive representative for a new window system capable of producing insulating values as high as 53.  Kephart made the announcement in International Falls, MN long known as “America’s Icebox.”  Richard Larson Builders, Inc, a 44 year old company located in Hutchinson, MN was the long shot to receive this highly acclaimed nomination.  The small Hutchinson company beat out much larger window suppliers with their creative marketing concept for the new window system.

Possibly the world’s most efficient window, Kephart is confident that the R-value of the so far un-named window, will revolutionize the construction industry.  Kephart commented that windows with an R-value of 53 may be so effective in the wall of a house that LP or fuel oil will become a thing of the past.

Right from its inception the R53 window has been turning heads.  Engineers have marveled over its ability to recognize pre-existing weather trends and prepare for the house for upcoming weather changes.  Kephart commented, “This window will become the Iphone of the home improvement industry.”

Initially thought to be too expensive to market to the average homeowner, the R53 window campaign received a huge boost when investors flocked to the company for record investment returns.

Loaded with high tech options the R53 window will come complete with a built-in solar generated heat pump that will assist in heating and cooling.  Other options include, remote tint, self wash, and an integral security system.

Forecasted orignally to be introduced by a large window company, Kephart’s marketing efforts convinced the R53 Board of Director’s that his small staff of 25 was more than capable of handling the North American introduction of such a complex window.  Kephart’s slogan of “No more hope, it’s time to change, get a 53” wowed the marketing department at R53.

Originally funded by the US Government for space research, the R53 window is expected to be released in North America in early second quarter, 2011.

Only very limited amounts of information are currently available on the window.  Kephart has directed all interested home owners or contractors to visit his website, Larson Builders.com

Lastly, Kephart has asked for your understanding of the magnitude of such a project.  For a complete summary of the concept, please reference the first letter of each paragraph.
